LBGTQ Counselling
Counselling for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals
- Are you struggling with same sex relationship problems and have no one to turn to who really understands?
- Do you wish you had more self-confidence and better self-esteem as a lesbian, gay or transgender person?
- Do you feel isolated and lonely?
When you are dealing with sexual-identity questions it can feel like you are on an emotional roller coaster….
Furthermore the process of coming out can be scary and complicated.
Your mind keeps churning as you weigh out the risks. “Who is going to love and accept me for who I am?”, “ Which friends am I going to lose?”, “Should I tell people at work or will that be the end of my career?”, “Will Mom and Dad still be proud of me?”
It’ painful to agonize about being rejected by important people in your life, about hurting loved ones and losing friends.
You don’t want to disappoint anyone…. while a voice in your head begs to ask, “Why should being “different” be a disappointment in the first place?” Sometimes you feel angry about heterosexual privilege. Sometimes you have to worry about your physical safety.
Everyone navigates the process of coming out in his or her own way.
Often you wish you had access to information, you could talk to people who won’t think you are a freak or who will label you. There are so many questions.
If you don’t fit in the “regular” world – at least you want to be accepted in the LGBT community. Having to confront homophobia – your own and that of our society can feel overwhelming.
You want to be seen and heard and respected for who you are as a human being and not be judged by your sexual orientation.
It takes courage and strength to make certain life choices. Often choosing to be gay, lesbian or transgender is made more challenging because of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Sometimes you are forced to live two lives, a visible “normal” one and an invisible real one.
Same sex relationship problems, loneliness, depression, anxiety, gay parenting or step-parenting, isolation from your family and/or coworkers, Coming Out, and substance abuse are often presenting problems that individual, couple or group counselling can help you resolve.
I know that when you are struggling and feeling vulnerable, the last thing you need is to have to deal with homophobia.
Most likely, you would like to work with a counsellor who doesn’t have to be “educated” about the issues and challenges of a queer lifestyle, someone who you can speak openly with and who can listen with compassion, respect and understanding.
You have come to the right place. I have been personally and professionally involved in the LGBTQ community for many years.
It is my joy and passion to offer a space that allows you to acknowledge and grow from the unique challenges in your life that are directly related to your sexual identity.
